Intermediate Compliance Privacy Specialist

$80,000 to $92,000 DOE
The Privacy Specialist will assist in the ongoing progression and maintenance of the company’s privacy program efforts, including but not limited to administration of privacy enhancing technologies such as Protenus, processing of data subject rights requests, evaluation of privacy impact assessments, policy and procedure implementation, and assistance on privacy auditing. The Privacy Specialist will also support the Ethics & Compliance Department in fulfilling its mission of supporting all employees from a compliance and ethics standpoint.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Handling of data subject requests (DSR)
• Processing of system monitoring alerts from technologies such as Protenus
• Evaluation and assessment of privacy impact assessments (PIA)
• Assist in completion and ongoing governance of data processing amendments (DPA) inventory
• Ability to engage with others in cross-functional areas such as IT, Legal, Operations and other key stakeholders in a professional and constructive manner
• Provide guidance and direction on privacy related questions and inquiries
• Monitor compliance with HIPAA requirements
• Formulate, effect, interpret, and implement compliance policies and procedures as needed
• Assist in the development and provision of compliance training for employees and contractors
• Coordinate, assist or conduct compliance and privacy investigations as required, which may include inspections of company policy an regulatory adherence, as well as inquiries into suspected or reported deviation from privacy program requirements
• Maintain log of inquiries and track, research and determine disposition of privacy issues
• Support Department in ongoing development of governance over innovation and developing technologies such as AI
• Assist in conducting research into laws, rules, policies, and regulations pertinent to the company’s operations. Develop and prepare reports of factual observations, research findings, and recommendations designed to improve compliance
• Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree.
• IAPP or CHP certification preferred or willingness to become certified
• Minimum 3 years previous privacy compliance related experience
• Substantial experience in healthcare, with knowledge about HIPAA and other privacy regulations
• Experience with privacy related technologies
• Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required
• Experience in emergency medical services is helpful but not required
Knowledge and Skills:
• Ability to perform detailed work accurately and within agreed upon deadlines
• Team-oriented, with an ability to value a diverse and geographically dispersed team
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and privacy laws combined with an ability to contemplate critically how those impact an organization’s operations
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive information with discretion
• A high degree of professionalism to engender respect and build rapport as a knowledgeable and helpful resource within and outside the compliance team.
• Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan, prioritize, and accomplish goals
• Self-motivated, with strong sense of initiative to complete assigned tasks and broader goals of the compliance team
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills that convey proficiency, professionalism, and respect
