The Payroll Tax Associate supports the Payroll Operations team by assisting with payroll tax compliance, reconciliations, and filings across multiple jurisdictions. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll tax payments, reporting, and issue resolution while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced payroll environment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and Duties
Reconcile payroll tax liabilities to the general ledger and payroll reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, notices, and agency inquiries in a timely manner.
Assist in setting up, updating, and maintaining tax jurisdictions and rates within the payroll system.
Support payroll tax audits, including preparation of documentation and responses to data requests.
Monitor compliance with changing payroll tax laws and regulations and escalate risks as needed.
Maintain accurate and organized payroll tax records and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with payroll, accounting, HR, and external vendors to ensure accurate tax processing and reporting.
Provide responsive, customer-focused support to internal stakeholders regarding payroll tax inquiries.
Assist with payroll tax filings and payment processing to ensure deadlines are met.
Perform additional payroll and accounting-related duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
One to three years of payroll or payroll tax experience preferred.
Working knowledge of U.S. payroll tax regulations across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
Experience with payroll systems such as UKG, ADP, Workday, or similar platforms preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliations, basic formulas, and data validation.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a customer service orientation.
