We’re seeking a highly skilled Database Specialist with strong Infrastructure Administration experience to support enterprise-level database operations across a distributed environment. This role focuses on designing, deploying, securing, and maintaining high-availability database systems while implementing best practices to ensure performance, resilience, and compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and maintain database environments using MySQL/MariaDB and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Implement database best practices for architecture, deployment, security, and lifecycle management.
- Develop and support high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Configure and manage MaxScale for load balancing, query routing, and HA implementations.
- Perform security hardening of database systems in alignment with DoD or industry standards.
- Establish and maintain audit logging and system log configurations to support compliance and operational visibility.
- Manage and validate database backup and recovery processes, ideally leveraging Cohesity or similar backup platforms.
- Collaborate with system and network administrators to ensure database infrastructure is properly integrated and optimized within the overall environment.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues proactively to maintain service reliability.
- Document database configurations, maintenance procedures, and operational workflows.
- Active Secret Clearance (or higher).
- U.S. citizenship (required for clearance validation).
- Proven experience with MySQL/MariaDB and/or MS SQL Server administration.
- Hands-on expertise in database architecture, replication, backup, and restore procedures.
- Experience implementing and managing high availability database solutions.
- Strong understanding of database security, hardening, and compliance controls.
- Familiarity with audit logging, system logging, and performance monitoring tools.
- Practical experience with Cohesity or similar enterprise backup solutions preferred.
- Solid foundational knowledge of infrastructure administration, including networking, storage, and virtualization concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting databases in secure or classified environments.
- Familiarity with DoD STIGs, RMF, or other security frameworks.
- Knowledge of automation tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell, or Python scripting for DB maintenance).
Additional Details
- This is a remote position; candidates may reside anywhere in the continental U.S.
- Must be located within reasonable distance of a major airport for occasional travel to customer or data center sites.
- Occasional on-call support may be required for mission-critical operations
Salary: 140-170K pending experience
