Ferguson is currently seeking the right individual to fill an immediate need for a Category Specialist – Finished Plumbing!
The Category Specialist will be responsible for supporting the profitable growth of the Finished Plumbing Category. This associate will support the enterprise strategy for finished plumbing across all residential business and channels. This position will report into the Category Manager – Residential Finished Plumbing.
Location:
This position is remote-eligible. Or Hybrid in the Newport New VA, area. Our hybrid schedule is 3 days in Office and 2 days Remote.
Occasional travel will be required. (<5%)
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate supplier performance relative to category strategy.
- Ensure vendor program and product information is accurate and available to Ferguson’s sales and management teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Conduct regular reviews of branded vendors and own brand products to ensure volume/mix and profit objectives are achieved.
- Help resolve vendor-related problems regarding performance, service, timing, quality, quantity, delivery industry and more.
- Develop recommendations for underperforming or unaligned products and programs, including program terminations.
- Provide marketing and merchandising guidance for respective categories.
- Assist in pricing strategy development and execution.
- Build an ongoing awareness of industry trends.
- Integrate products and categories across Ferguson’s sales channels as needed.
Job function & responsibilities:
Category Management works to enhance profitability through developing Intentional Product Strategy and acting as the voice of Ferguson to our vendors.
General areas of responsibility include vendor relations, negotiating corporate programs, onboarding/offboarding vendors, evaluating vendor performance, understanding and recommending product solutions, and ensuring vendor program and product information is accurate and available to Ferguson’s sales and management teams.
Areas of impact:
Sets day-to-day objectives and deliver job responsibilities that may vary outside typical norms or practices. Work independently and may be required to apply discretion within established operational boundaries and procedures.
Problem solving:
Problems and issues faced often need analysis to understand. Checks and make minor adjustments to work methods to solve problems that may not be immediately evident in existing work processes and systems. However, may have references or help from norms and/or standard procedures to solve these problems (e.g., operating manuals, ability to discuss in teams, or advance issues to manager).
Associate & operational management:
Supports enterprise business and sales objectives through the effective and efficient performance of job responsibilities.
Budget oversight:
Has no budget setting or budgetary authority but may act as part of a team with responsibility for achieving project objectives within an established budget
Prior experience:
Two (2) years of experience is preferred to perform at expectation. Applies broad job knowledge of own job area or basic job knowledge across multiple job areas.
Technical and professional skills:
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams & PowerBI

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.
