Associate Vice President – Risk Management
Global Medical Response (GMR)
Annual Compensation: $170,000 to $220,000 based on experience
JOB SUMMARY:
The Associate Vice President of Risk Management is responsible for the development and execution of risk management strategies supporting the company’s aviation and ground ambulance transportation programs. Risk financing strategies include the use of the general property and casualty insurance markets as well as the company’s Cayman-based captive program. Additionally, management oversight of broker and claims TPA activities are key elements to successful program outcomes. This person will ensure collaboration and continuous feedback among the company’s operations and safety teams to enable ongoing improvement of the company’s risk profile. The AVP of Risk Management is accountable for management reporting and internal oversight of large loss activity in collaboration with the GMR’s in-house legal and TPA teams. The role is also responsible for risk identification, mitigation, and OSHA compliance. This role reports to the GMR Chief Administrative Officer.
Responsibilities:
- The Associate Vice President of Risk Management will identify, assess, report, and contribute to the mitigation of risks across the organization’s air and ground operations.
- Provide guidance to the legal, operations, and business development teams with contract language on insurance and other risk management matters.
- Develop and maintain process for the timely notification, filing of claims and consultation with the insurers and TPA, appropriate regulatory agencies, and legal.
- Provide oversight and guidance in the management of claims to include auto liability, general liability, professional liability, workers’ compensation, property, aviation, and cyber liability.
- Support due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures.
- Implement and maintain tools and processes that accurately measures safety and risk performance.
- Demonstrate a management style that is team-oriented, self-directed, and customer service-driven.
- Ensure the ongoing development of the GMR Risk Management team through mentoring and active performance feedback.
- Develop the annual insurance program budget in collaboration with the company’s brokers, actuaries, TPA, legal teams, and captive management.
- Oversee compliance, training, and enforcement of company/department policies and procedures including information systems security protocols among the risk team.
- Occasional travel required.
Qualifications:
Education & Industry Experience
- An undergraduate degree in general business, accounting, finance, law or combination of education and relevant experience. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience including insurance underwriting, brokerage, and claims administration, compliance, or finance.
- Experience building and leading large company initiatives, embracing a strong culture of early engagement, internal collaboration, and critical thinking.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and deliver a clear assessment of performance, opportunity, and risk for management review.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required to make sound and objective decisions and/or recommend creative solutions to complex matters while ensuring compliance with government regulations and company policies.
- Sound organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to successfully interact at all company levels.
- Commitment to obtaining and maintaining professional certification in risk management and safety (e.g., CPCU, CSP, ASP, AIC, ARM). Ability to quickly acquire the necessary knowledge and stay abreast of changing regulatory requirements and potential risks.
This position is annual bonus eligible.
