We are seeking an analytical and collaborative Mortgage Underwriter to join our Mortgage Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing mortgage applications, evaluating risk, ensuring compliance, and delivering accurate, high‑quality decisions that support our members and organizational goals.
Your Role in Our Mission:
- Delivers timely, accurate, thorough and high quality work. Sets clear, measurable and realistic goals and holds self and others accountable for achieving them; stays with plan of action until objective is achieved.
- Reviews and assesses risk in mortgage credit reports, sales contracts, title commitments, flood certifications, asset statements, verifications of deposit, verifications of employment / income, verifications of mortgage / rent and all other supporting documentation.
- Underwrites and decisions, mortgage and home equity files within lending authority/policy limits.
- Reviews residential appraisals and property valuations / condition reports for adherence to sound and professional underwriting practices.
- Reviews DU findings report to ensure all conditions have been met and maintain saleability.
- Leverages all available technology solutions to maximize efficiency, quality and consistency in their work.
- Ensures that all secondary market mortgage loans and mortgage insurance loans are in compliance with the appropriate eligibility and underwriting requirements.
- Provides instructions/direction to Closing Department of any items that must be handled prior to / at closing.
- Obtains private mortgage insurance certificates.
- Assists in training; within the Mortgage Department and our digital and member facing locations.
- Serves as working leader in the Mortgage Services Department and demonstrates strong and ethical decision making abilities regardless of situation and pace of environment.
- Assists in updating and creating procedures and product profiles as needed.
What Makes You a Great Fit:
- 2–3 years of mortgage underwriting experience
- Strong knowledge of mortgage regulations, secondary market guidelines, and mortgage insurance requirements
- Proficiency with automated underwriting systems and mortgage‑related technology platforms
- Ability to analyze complex financial documentation and make sound credit decisions
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- High ethical standards and sound judgment in all decision‑making
