RouteSmart Technologies, a leader in vehicle route optimization software technology, is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our Product Development team. This role reports directly to the DBA Team Lead and is responsible for managing PostgreSQL databases throughout development and production lifecycles in an AWS environment.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, AWS RDS/Aurora, and database performance optimization. This position also serves as a backup to the DBA Team Lead, making technical decisions in their absence to ensure continuity and stability in database operations.
The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be $120,000–$130,000 per year, depending on experience and location. RouteSmart Technologies has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the U.S.
This is ideally a hybrid role. Candidates must be able to commute to the office in Melville, NY or Columbia, MD. Candidates must reside within 50 miles and be available to work onsite several days per week.
Remote work may be considered for candidates domiciled in one of the following states: Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, DC, Virginia, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Washington.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Mentor Database Administrator staff in coordination with VP of Product Development and DBA Team Lead, including task assignment and review.
- Stay current on PostgreSQL (Aurora) and AWS database technologies; recommend and integrate new solutions into RouteSmart products.
- Develop maintenance roadmaps for AWS database services to ensure timely patching and updates.
- Design and implement logical and physical database structures based on customer requirements.
- Provide guidance on database standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with development and architecture teams to ensure smooth PostgreSQL transition to production.
- Lead implementation of Multi-AZ and cross-region support, including migration to Aurora Global Database.
- Implement automated methods and best practices for PostgreSQL configurations in production and non-production environments.
- Manage backup/recovery functions for large PostgreSQL environments.
- Monitor system health and performance; set up alerting mechanisms.
- Manage user accounts, database security, and performance tuning.
- Plan and coordinate system upgrades and capacity planning.
- Manage Disaster Recovery environment and resolve incidents promptly.
- Generate detailed reports on PostgreSQL processes and resource usage.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with the majority focused on PostgreSQL environments.
- In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL database architecture.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a cloud environment.
- AWS RDS certification(s) or other industry-standard DBA certifications strongly preferred.
- Ability to perform database patching and maintenance during off-peak hours.
