The Deal, part of With Intelligence and S&P Global, is seeking an M&A reporter to join its New York newsroom. They will be responsible for delivering a consistent level of exclusive early-stage news on US private equity deals for a particular sector.
The position reports directly to a Senior Editor and is ideal for a journalist with a desire to cultivate sources and regularly produce exclusives on complex or sensitive stories.
While sector-specific expertise is not required, prior experience covering an industry and developing a strong source base that can generate scoops will be considered an asset. Coverage may include industrials, financial services, technology or other sectors, depending on newsroom needs. This is a hybrid role, combining remote and in-office work, with opportunities to travel to major industry events and conferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently deliver exclusive, source-based articles
- Build and maintain strong relationships with bankers, lawyers, investors, company executives, and other key players.
- Become our M&A expert in a specific sector
- Cover potential transactions at an early enough stage that they are actionable for our subscribers
- Attend and report from conferences, events and meetings to drive fresh, agenda-setting coverage.
- Work collaboratively with editors and colleagues to shape impactful, forward-looking reporting.
- Proven reporting experience, preferably in financial journalism, though other beats considered if the candidate can demonstrate the ability to break exclusive or complex stories.
- Interest in business and financial markets.
- Ability to develop sources and consistently uncover news.
- Strong writing and analytical skills with the ability to make technical or complex information accessible to a sophisticated readership.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom and managing multiple storylines simultaneously.
