We’re looking for nurses who want to be part of a new and innovative patient care program at Avera. Virtual Nursing allows nurses to care for patients without the physical demands of bedside care. This technology allows our virtual nurses to monitor and check on their patients using audio and video technology. You will work in conjunction with nurses at the bedside, acting as a virtual extension of the onsite team providing compassionate, innovative care.

Job Summary
The Virtual Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care with collaboration from the bedside nurse through two-way audio-visual technology and monitoring data through specialized software. This position assists in coaching and mentoring department staff in areas of clinical and professional practice. Duties include admission history, medication double checks, medication reconciliation, and pain reassessment.
- Avera requires all nurses to practice at a competent level of nursing care and demonstrate a competent and professional level of behavior in his/her role as a RN.
- The American Nurses Associations (ANA) Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice are exemplified within the position description.
- The Registered Nurse is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide nursing care for the patient.
- He/she assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered on his/her shift.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of Obstetric inpatient (Labor and Delivery/ Fetal Heart Monitoring) experience required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required.
- Strongly encouraged to complete life-saving education specific to specialty area.
- ANCC Certification in applicable specialty area is encouraged.
- Membership in a professional organization encouraged.
Work Schedule
- Varied shifts as needed, rotating 12 hour day/night, every 6th weekend and holiday rotation; PRN
Pay
The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
