The Senior Accountant - Leases will be primarily responsible for supporting Best Buy’s Domestic lease portfolios. The senior accountant ensures that all leases are properly identified, classified, recorded, and documented appropriately under the lease accounting standard. The role provides a great opportunity for personal growth and development for an individual to showcase and develop expertise around lease accounting standards and visibility to many layers of the business and management team. A successful candidate will have had exposure to researching the accounting guidance and being able to own their work through completion.
This role is remote eligible, which means you would work virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location.
What you’ll do - Review and monitor building lease agreements in close partnership with the real estate team and properties FP&A
- Ensure lease renewals and related calculations are accurate and properly updated as new information is obtained
- Month-end close responsibilities (journal entries, account reconciliations, SOX testing, etc.)
- Compile and review the leases financial reporting schedules used for internal reporting and external filings (10-Q/Ks)
- Research technical accounting issues related to leases, document conclusions and recommend accounting treatment to ensure internal and external reporting requirements are met
- Provide insight to the real estate team and properties FP&A regarding the accounting impacts of lease decisions
Basic Qualifications:- 1.5+ years of work experience in an Accounting or Finance capacity
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or related field
- In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 3+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, economics, business, or related field (in addition to the work experience required under basic qualifications for a total of 5+ years)
- GAAP accounting knowledge and an ability to research questions as they arise
- Strong understanding of accounting processes and internal controls, with an ability to identify and address weaknesses in controls
