The Marine Propulsion System Leader supports the business by developing technical requirements, driving design decisions, identifying technical risks and abatements, and is critical to guiding the program in meeting the certification / qualification timeline committed to the business.
The Marine Systems engineering leaders provide propulsion system integration with the GE Aviation Marine family of products with the ship builders by providing technical leadership of the supporting engineering teams around the Packages, Controls, Performance and related elements such as engine room transmitted acoustics, gas turbine emissions, package cooling heat transfer, and ship electrical load analysis impact on gas turbine durability.
Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
The Marine Propulsion Systems Engineer key responsibilities include:
- Lead cross functional teams in the execution of the Marine programs
- Lead and provide key technical direction on large projects with critical business impact
- Assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of design practices and standards with certification agency requirements
- Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organizations and within the work group
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers
- Communicate with management on technical, financial and programmatic issues
- Ensure proper documentation of technical efforts
- Provide technical guidance and promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counseling
- Conducts component and product integration.
- All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability.
- Manages product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down.
- Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.
- Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams.
- Manages interface between components and execution organizations.
- Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system.
- Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline.
- Serves as best practice/quality resource.
- Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.
- Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
- Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 5 of years' experience in systems engineering.
