Job Description:
The MSKCC Department of Radiation Oncology is one of the nation’s largest. The GU service includes over 20 faculty members practicing across 7 sites focusing on the treatment of primary and oligometastatic prostate, bladder, testis, and renal cancer. The service has robust and wide-ranging research activities involving prospective and retrospective clinical and translational studies that examine the role of radiation in the management of these diseases. The prospective trial portfolio includes both cooperative group studies (e.g. NRG and ANZUP) and investigator-initiated efforts. The service benefits from deep and close collaborations with the Department of Medical Physics and supports a wide range of modalities and technologies including LDR and HDR Brachytherapy, SBRT, MR-based radiation planning, and an expanding MR Linear Accelerator program. The service also maintains continually updated clinical guidelines on indications for radiation and optimal techniques for each disease sub-site within the GU service. Of note, physicians on the service manage both ADT and ARSI therapy for most of the primary and salvage prostate cancer cases treated. The service collaborates closely with the Divisions of Urology, Genitourinary Medical Oncology and Departments of Radiology and Pathology on research efforts and guideline management.
Principal Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development of clinical guidelines for the radiation-based treatment of patients with primary and oligometastatic GU malignancies.
- Provide comprehensive academic and clinical mentorship to junior faculty on the service.
- Organize and lead weekly site-specific chart rounds for the service and ensure guideline concordant management.
- Work with departmental and institutional leadership to formulate strategies to identify and attract patients to MSKCC from both within and outside catchment.
- Work closely with leadership in Urology and GU Medical Oncology to develop high-impact clinical trials that address the unmet needs of and improve outcomes in patients with GU malignancies.
- Represent the service at multi-disciplinary management conferences.
- Work with the Chiefs of Brachytherapy and External Beam Radiotherapy to on-line cutting edge technologies and develop research related to these novel technologies.
- Explore the expansion of radiation treatment options for both bladder and renal cancer.
- Investigate disparities and barriers to appropriate care among patients with primary and metastatic GU disease.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at MSKCC treats approximately 11,500 patients across its 7 sites. This position will involve approximately 25-50% clinical effort and 50-75% research/administration, depending on the candidate’s credentials and research effort.
