Description:
JOB PURPOSE:
The Athletic Trainer provides care to clients in need of sports related rehabilitation services in various settings. This person is responsible for the care of injured athletes from adolescents to geriatrics at community sporting events and on the practice and playing fields. The Athletic Trainer administers immediate first aid and develops a treatment program based on the nature of the injury. The Athletic Trainer communicates with the injured athlete, physician, coach, and family as appropriate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Appropriately assesses and examines athletes with varying diagnoses according to the Athletic Training scope of practice
Treats Athletes within the ATC scope of practice
Assists the physician in the Operating Room with patient positioning, preparation and draping.
Maintains sterile operating field, cuts sutures, assists MD with tissue retraction, exposure of the operative area, suctioning, sizing and preparation of previously harvested graft-tissue, position of arthroscopic camera, and suturing skin and wound closure under supervision of the physician.
Provides proper post-operative wound care and education, removal of sutures and dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician.
Develops and implements patient management plans, assists in provision of continuity of care from offices visits through surgery if necessary as well as therapy needs.
Perform cast and/or durable medical equipment (DME) application and removal
Provides education to students, caregivers, coaches, etc. regarding athletic injuries and care
Completes documentation of Athletic Injuries (via injury report and coaches notes)
Maintains Athletic training supplies and equipment
Promotes Piedmont Healthcare by working positively with students, caregivers coaches and faculty
Participates in other high school events as appropriate to help promote the sports medicine program
Assumes responsibility for completing all assignments and tasks in a timely and cost efficient manner
Works closely with the physician and physicians assistants within Piedmont Healthcare
Markets the Entire Hospital system within the community
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in Athletic Training or related field such as Health, Physical, Education or Exercise Science required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Orthopedic Technologist Certification required.
Current certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association required.
Current Athletic Trainer license in State of Georgia required.
BLS certification is required.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with a variety of sports programs preferred.
