The Sub-Section Manager for Advanced Mechanical Systems is an engineering management role. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and developing a team of skilled mechanical design engineers as they advance the state-of-the-art in bearings, seals, drives and associated subsystems for our RISE technology programs. This role reports to the Section Leader for Advanced Mechanical Design.
The hybrid schedule consists of working in the office minimum of 3 days per week and the option to work from home on the other days, based on team/project schedules.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of aircraft engine mechanical systems using sound engineering principles while adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and program requirements.
- Manage a small- to medium-sized team of design engineers. Influence the development of strategy in mechanical systems design and technology, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Exercise a high level of judgement to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in mechanical systems, such as operational, manufacturing, technology engineering tasks. Assess the quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Use multiple internal and some external sources to help arrive at a decision.
- Lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicate difficult concepts and influence others' options on particular topics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design
- Prior experience leading an engineering team
