RCM Patient Account Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for managing patient accounts, ensuring accurate billing, processing insurance claims, and providing excellent customer service to the patients. Communication with staff, payors, and patients is paramount in this position, ensuring that the patients and needs of all departments are met effectively and efficiently.
What you will be doing
- Oversee the financial processes related to patients care, including verifying insurance details, processing claims, and handling billing inquiries.
- Submit insurance claims to various payors, as needed.
- Address patients billing inquiries, providing clear explanations of charges, insurance benefits, and payment options to enhance patients’ satisfaction.
- Reconcile patients’ accounts by applying payments and adjustments accurately, ensuring that account balances reflect the current status and balance.
- Contact patients in advance of a procedure/ visit to explain patient responsibility owed and collect payments in advance.
- Negotiate payment and payment plans with patients experiencing financial hardship and apply charity care policies as applicable.
- Contact patients regarding delinquent accounts and documents mutually acceptable payment schedules.
- Confirm patients’ insurance benefits and eligibility through comprehensive intake process, ensuring coverage.
- Evaluate and prepare prior authorization requests for various medical services, to include follow-up, as needed.
- Responsible for reconciling any discrepancies between the payments received and the amounts billed including investigation of underpayments and overpayments ensuring that all financial records are accurate.
- Follow-up on all assigned accounts from within the PM system in accordance with pre-established goals.
- Research and analyze accounts and payments; reverse balances to credit or debit if charges were improperly billed or if payments were incorrect.
- Respond timely and accurately to all incoming correspondence and inquiries from payers, patients, and other appropriate parties. Elevate issues, as appropriate, to the Manager.
What you will bring to the team
- High school diploma or GED certificate required.
- 2+ years of healthcare payment posting/ AR and practical experience in healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in using various software and/ or credentialing software and databases.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws that apply to the duties of this position.
- Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Compensation is depending on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, or experience that may fall outside of the range shown
Pay Range: $24.00 - $24.30 per hour
