The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Elmhurst University in the greater Chicago area invites applications to join the pool of part-time (adjunct) faculty. Potential courses to teach include:
- Linguistics Related to Speech, Language, and Hearing
- Language Development and Disorders
- Language and Literacy in Young Children: Assessment and Treatment (graduate level)
- Bilingual Assessment in Public School Settings (graduate level)
Position Status: Exempt
Salary Range: The pay range is $3,800-$4,000 for a standard 1.0 credit (4 semester hour) course. New part-time faculty start at $3,800 (Adjunct Level 1).
Work Location: This position is ineligible for remote work.
Responsibilities
- Prepares course syllabi for assigned course based on approved course description.
- Holds regular class meetings that promote active learning and student engagement.
- Creates and administers learning activities; assigns grades based on clear requirements.
- Is available for student questions.
- Follows University and departmental policies.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- An earned master’s or doctoral (preferred) degree in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with CSD faculty, staff and students.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching with a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in college-level teaching in communication sciences and disorders.
- CCC-SLP or CCC-A certification.
- Doctoral degree in communication sciences and disorders, audiology or closely related field preferred.
- Clinical experience in speech-language pathology, audiology or deaf education.
- Teaching and/or clinical experience related to the subject area is preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in an indoor setting with limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Work is often sedentary in nature and requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods. Required abilities include speaking and hearing for in-person and virtual communication, using close and distance vision when reading documents or viewing screens, and performing tasks with repetitive fine motor skills. Work may require occasional lifting, bending, carrying, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
