Backend Engineer - High-Throughput FinTech/Crypto Infrastructure
Location: New York City (Office)
Compensation: $250K - $300K
We are a high-growth software company contributing to one of the world's largest crypto social networks, moving fast and redefining what is possible in the FinTech and crypto space. We are seeking an elite Backend Engineer to design and scale the complex systems powering seamless fiat-to-crypto flows, real-time risk decisions, and rock-solid financial records for a 24/7 system.
You will own mission-critical systems and services at the core of our platform, working on high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems. This role requires deep technical expertise at the intersection of payments, compliance, risk, and on-chain infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payments & Orchestration: Own payment orchestration for bank rails (ACH, RTP, FedNow, SEPA) and cards (Apple Pay, Google Pay), building idempotent, fault-tolerant APIs and webhook processing.
- Risk Engine: Build a real-time risk engine (<300ms) that combines rules, machine learning scores, sanctions/KYC hits, and blockchain analytics to drive instantaneous GREEN/AMBER/RED outcomes.
- Compliance Infrastructure: Implement KYC/AML primitives (CIP/CDD, Travel Rule data) and ship a double-entry ledger and reconciliation system for audit-ready journaling and daily break detection.
- Integration: Integrate third-party providers (Plaid, Stripe, Adyen, Chainalysis, TRM, etc.) behind clean, reliable interfaces.
- Crypto Delivery: Deliver crypto safely and fast (e.g., USDC/SOL), managing hot-wallet flow, transaction creation, confirmations, and operational safeguards.
- Reliability & Monitoring: Raise the bar on reliability (SLOs, circuit breakers, canary releases), instrument everything with traces/metrics/logs, and participate in on-call for 24/7 system coverage.
- Domain Expertise: Experienced Onramp specialist with a track record building fiat-to-crypto ramps end-to-end.
- Systems Expertise: Back-end expert in high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems, payments, or fintech risk.
- Programming Fluency: Fluent in Rust, Go, or TypeScript/Node/Python with strong systems skills.
- Database Expert: Deep in Postgres (transactions, indexing, locking); familiar with Redis and event/OLAP stores (Kafka/Redpanda, ClickHouse).
- API Craftsmanship: API craftsman skilled in gRPC/REST best practices, idempotency, versioning, and webhook consumers.
- Architecture: Event-driven thinker who designs systems with queues, outbox/inbox, and exactly-once-effective behavior.
- Security: Security-minded with knowledge of key management, HSM/KMS, and secrets hygiene.
- Mindset: Ownership-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and thrives on rapid iteration.
- Location: New York, NY (Full-Time, In-Person) – this is not a remote position.
Preferred Experience (Signal Boosters):
- Payments: ACH/NACHA returns, chargebacks, 3DS/SCA, or Apple/Google Pay.
- Open Banking: Experience with Plaid, TrueLayer, or Tink for account auth & bank-transfer initiation.
- Risk/Fraud: Experience with rule engines, device fingerprinting, or dispute workflows.
- Compliance: Sanctions/PEP screening, Travel Rule networks, or SAR/STR integration.
- Infra: AWS, Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana.
- Compensation: Competitive Base Salary ($250K - $300K) + Equity/Tokens (significant upside).
- Culture: High-talent density culture that values speed over perfection and ownership over bureaucracy—everyone makes big decisions.
- Health: Overpowered medical, dental, and vision plans.
- Impact: Opportunity to build something game-changing at the cutting edge of crypto and financial infrastructure.
- Location: Work in our dynamic office environment in New York, NY.
