Poderation are looking for a part-time Business Development Assistant to join the team and assist with bringing new nerdy podcasts into the Poderation family! Working remotely with the founder, you’ll assist with and eventually be responsible for identifying new podcasts for Poderation to work with and negotiating their entrance into the Poderation network.
The Company
Poderation is Podcasts for Nerds – a niche podcast network focusing on representing nerdy interests of all stripes. Operating primarily with media and gaming podcasts, but with extensions into other related areas, our goal is to create a space where nerdy podcasts can reside, grow and thrive supporting each other. We’re currently more than 20 podcasts strong, and looking to expand out network to new areas of the varied worlds of nerdy media.
The Role
The Business Development Assistant will primarily be responsible for identifying, contacting and eventually negotiating with podcasts in Poderation’s niche(s) to bring them on as clients of the business’ advertising and podcast management network. This is a fully-remote role, initially covering primarily lead generation and initial contact stages of the Business Development process, but eventually expanding to cover all aspects of the client engagement process. Initially working with the Founder/Managing Director as you get up to speed, but ultimately operating on your own, you’ll need an independent mindset with an eye for the unusual to succeed, combined with a willingness to shepherd a sales process from initial research all the way through to contract signatures.
As a young business, this role would be ideal for someone looking for an entry into business development and sales in the media sector who’d like to shape a role with a start-up as it grows. The role would initially comprise roughly 35 hours per month of work, with a competitive base salary and bonuses directly tied to the size and performance of shows that you bring onto the network.
We’ll be honest here; this is a part-time freelance role at a startup company, with a starting workload of roughly one day a week – we’re not expecting you to suddenly throw every waking hour into all things Poderation. At least, not yet. But there are a few qualities we’d like to see in our ideal candidate:
- A Different Sort of Thinker
Working in nerdy spaces means putting on a different sort of hat (sometimes literally!) than traditional sales, or even advertising, roles. We’re looking for someone who can take approaches as novel as the worlds some of our shows come up with, who can suss out the shows where “is it ethical eat a person that’s been turned into a chicken?” is a serious question at their tabletop.
- Results-Driven & Always Seeking More
Your results are directly connected to how much you’ll earn from the role – it’s best for all of us if you’re interested in earning as much as possible. We’re method-agnostic – we want you to develop your own style of sales that suits you – but we want people who don’t have the word “enough” in their vocabulary.
The Assistant will be the first and most integral member of our Business Development team, and as the business grows will come to head up one of the core elements of Poderation as a business. We’re looking for an assistant now, but eventually they’ll be far, far more; we want someone with ambitions to match.
You can’t sell podcasts for nerds if you’re not at least a little nerdy yourself. We’re looking for someone who’s a nerd and proud, and enjoys both what they’re selling, and who they’re selling it to!
