Position Summary Information
- General SummaryThe Property/Liability Claims Agent I is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving minor property claims involving damages to real property and vehicles. Duties include reviewing damage, engaging WSSC staff and contractors to gather relevant documentation and informtaion, drafting authority memoranda, and negotiating settlements. The agent also handles simple billed work claims that involve investigating damage to WSSC Water property caused by third parties.Essential FunctionsMaintains claims files with pertinent documentation
- Assembles reports and other material related to property damage claims
- Communicates regularly with claimants
- Advises claimants of the disposition of their claims
- Maintains records related to claims and expenses
- Assists with processing invoices submitted by claims vendors, including cleaning contracts
- Processes billed work (damage caused by others to WSSC Water vehicles, lines and structures)
- Analyzes and resolves liability issues

- Minimum Education, Experience RequirementsHigh School diploma (or equivalent)
- 1+ year experience processing claims – OR – two years of experience working with WSSC Water’s computer system for processing maintenance work orders (MMIS)
Additional RequirementsCompletion of the WSSC Water Financial disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafterPreferencesClaims coursework is helpful.Salary $25.77 - $43.80 per hour
