The Director of Controls will be responsible for properly utilizing available software and controls engineering resources to fulfill the needs of clients as well as internal company needs. Part of this responsibility is knowing when the engineering teams are being over utilized and additional resources should be procured or contracted. This individual must be knowledgeable of all projects being worked on by their team so that they can support their engineers’ needs and help them resolve project issues. This role will require strong interpersonal and communication skills with enhanced multi-tasking abilities across engineering, project management, procurement, and manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have the ability to support company and client needs while also promoting individual success and inspiring their employees to grow within the organization.
· Direct engineering resources to keep them fully utilized on internal and client projects.
· Recruit and interview possible engineering candidates when additional resources are needed.
· Oversee training and mentoring of engineering personnel.
· Execute annual performance reviews for engineering staff and recommend raises or promotions when appropriate.
· Develop and maintain department standards while making sure that these standards are followed by all employees for all projects.
· Collaborate with executive team to develop department goals and individual development goals for engineering staff.
· Work with clients and other KPI employees to develop the proper material handling system and equipment to suit the client’s needs.
· Attend design reviews and client meetings to support design team engineers.
· Support vendor factory acceptance testing or first article inspections.
· All engineering resources report to this individual.
· Travel expectations are approximately 25%.
· A Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or 10 – 15 years of equivalent experience.
· 10 – 15 years of experience in material handling engineering or 5-10 years of experience in engineering management.
· Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on effective oral and written communication.
· Ability to manage a diverse engineering staff located both in office and remote.
