This role includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, as well as supervision of nursing personnel. The unit promotes a team-based environment focusing on communication, collaboration, and proactive detection of medical issues to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
DescriptionThe IMC Step-Down/Cardiac Unit is a 36-private bed unit that specializes in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients and families that are post CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis/history with co-morbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips.
On our unit, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management. Our beds are in high demand, are typically full, and our staff is rarely cancelled. We offer flexible scheduling and promote a team environment. We encourage communication and collaboration in an environment that is engaging and rewarding for our health care professionals, as well the patients on our unit.
Summary:
A Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. In addition, the Registered Professional Nurse prescribes, delegates, coordinates, supervises and evaluates patient teaching and the activities of the ancillary nursing personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. The Registered Nurse is able to provide direct and indirect care to patients.
Requirements:
A. Education/Skills
Graduate of a State Board School of Nursing or equivalent.
B. Experience
Six (6) months experience preferred.
C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
AHA BLS – within two (2) weeks of employment
ACLS – required within eight (8) weeks of employment
Arrhythmia Recognition Course – within eight (8) weeks of employment
