Registered Nurses in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provide expert care for critically ill patients facing complex medical issues. Medical Intensive Care Unit
Our 24-bed adult MICU cares for the most complex critically ill medical patients. MICU nurses are clinical experts in the management of complicated medical problems which include GI bleeds, respiratory failure, renal failure, liver failure, CHF, COPD, DM etc. The nurses on this unit utilize many advanced therapies, such as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), post-cardiac-arrest hypothermia protocol, and hemodynamic monitoring. The MICU is the home of MedStar Georgetown’s rapid response nurse, known as the “Resource Nurse,” who provides critical assessment of decompensating patients throughout the hospital. Additionally, the MICU team functions as the CODE BLUE responders, managing emergent patient events with expertise and compassion. The MICU is proud to have received the Gold Beacon Award for Nursing Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications
· ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
· Minimum of two years of critical care experience preferred.
· Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers required.
