POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of duties including obtaining eligibility and benefits, authorizations, providing patient financial estimates, scheduling appointments, obtaining patient medical records, and responding to medical record requests, as well as various other tasks. This position also provides direct oversight to contracted, off-site representatives to verify and ensure work is completed accurately and timely. Communication with staff and patients is paramount in this position, ensuring that proper care is approved, scheduled, and provided to patients
This is a remote position, and worker location must be within Unio Health Partners authorized states: AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, IA, NV, OR, TX, VA, WI
What you will be doing
- Adhere to the company’s E&B workflow which includes verifying health insurance identification numbers, patient registration, selecting correct payor, and verifying provider contract status. Benefit verifications are completed to identify scheduled/proposed procedures against a payor’s medical policy of coverage.
- Adhere to the company’s Treatment Estimate workflow to verify procedures and estimate patient costs so that payment arrangements, financial challenges, and financial expectations can be discussed proactively.
- Oversee and ensure that data entry and other assigned tasks for MEDVA and GHR representatives are completed timely and accurately.
- Conduct audits of MEDVA and GHR representatives as necessary and make any required data corrections; follow up with appropriate individuals with any performance concerns.
- Act as a resource for contracted representatives by providing ongoing direction, training, feedback, and answering questions.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and patient demographics.
- Validate, correct, and update billing claim forms, authorizations, insurance registration, demographic, and eligibility information.
- Obtain authorizations and make detailed notes in the patient’s account including documenting conversations and payment arrangements for all patients.
- Initiate requests for authorizations for all services ordered by the physician if authorization is required for other providers. This may require coordination with primary care physicians/IPA’s etc. if additional referrals are needed. STAT & Retro Requests may be necessary at times.
What you will bring to the team
- High school diploma or GED certificate required.
- 1+ year of recent experience working in a medical facility with front office experience or commensurate education in medical office protocols
- Prior Work with computer-based Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, strongly preferred
- EMR and Practice Management system experience
- Knowledge of medical terms and vocabulary
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure data is entered accurately
- Knowledge of state and federal laws that apply to the duties of this position
- Ability to maintain strict patient, physician, staff, and corporate confidentiality
