The Registered Nurse (RN) in Labor and Delivery provides care to pregnant patients from 16 weeks gestation until delivery, catering to both uncomplicated and complex high-risk cases. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and a commitment to evidence-based practices, while also supporting patient wellbeing in a designated Baby-Friendly hospital. An ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited nursing school and an active DC RN license are required for this position.
Unit Highlights
Nurses on Labor & Delivery care for pregnant patients from 16-weeks gestation until the time of delivery of their newborn(s), as well as in the immediate postpartum/recovery period. Our patient population ranges from individuals with uncomplicated deliveries to those with the most complex, high-risk medical and psychosocial issues. These include patients with mild to severe preeclampsia, diabetes, kidney disease, cardiac disease, hematologic/oncologic disease, obesity, congenital disorders, etc. Working collaboratively with Children's National Medical Center, our "Special Moms, Special Babies" program coordinates the deliveries of babies requiring the immediate attention of the specialists at CNMC. We are also a designated Baby-Friendly USA hospital, demonstrating our commitment to evidence-based practices for the maternal-newborn dyad. Our L&D unit has an interdisciplinary patient care team that consists of nurses, physicians, midwives, residents, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, equipment technicians and unit clerks.

Qualifications
- ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
- Prior Clinical Nursing Experience preferred.
- Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required.
