Shift: 36 hours/week, Evening/Night, 1900-0730, every other weekend of per unit needs
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Acute Medical and Progressive Care unit (D6/5):
• Join one of the world's foremost organ transplant programs. UW Health provides care to patients in our heart, lung, kidney, liver, pancreas, intestine, islet cell and pediatric transplant programs.
• Nurses on D6/5 get a chance to work within the #1 lung transplant program in the nation.
• Nurses on this 29-bed unit are skilled in providing comprehensive and specialized nursing care to the acutely ill adult patient who may present with multiple comorbidities, a variety of medical diagnoses, and hemodynamic instability.
• Specialty populations cared for on the unit include patients with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis (CF), pulmonary hypertension (PH), and post lung transplant.
• Nurses are highly competent, adaptable, and trained to meet the needs of both general care and intermediate care (IMC) patients, with 15 beds dedicated to general care and 14 to IMC.
• Nurses on D6/5 excel at communicating and collaborating with care teams to promote smooth transitions amongst levels of care, including those patients who transition from critical care units to the acute progressive care unit.
• Critical thinking, problem solving, and a desire to provide high quality care in a learning environment is important, and there are many opportunities throughout the year on D6/5 to attain new knowledge and grow your nursing practice.
Minimum Requirements:
• Facility Requirement:
o Traveler must have permanent address outside 50 mile radius of Madison (permanent address must be included in traveler's profile: resume, Medefis portal and all onboarding documentation must have permanent address listed).
• Experience:
o IMC experience required.
o ICU experience considered, but must be willing to work with non-ICU patients.
o Transplant and trach experience required.
o Traveler must have completed two years of acute care experience within last 3 years.
o Traveler must have experience in an Academic Level 1 or 2 - Trauma center or similar size hospital.
• Licensure and Certification:
o Traveler must have WI nursing license or compact license from their permanent address state.
o BLS and ACLS – must be certified through American Heart Association ONLY
• Telemetry
o Traveler must have Basic Arrhythmia experience. Traveler will be required to pass UW Health Telemetry test prior to being cleared to start (not for clinic positions). UW Health Recruitment will send instructions to traveler 2-3 weeks prior to start date.
• Floating
o Travelers are the first to float. The Traveler may have shifts scheduled in multiple units, depending on the current staffing needs. During the traveler’s assignment, if the primary unit no longer has a need, shifts will be re-assigned to another unit in order to complete contract.
