The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Construction Control Inspector (GS-0809-09) to work at the 55th Civil Engineer Squadron at Offutt AFB, located in Bellevue, Nebraska.
In this position you will perform inspections on a variety of complicated structures involving difficult and complex construction; or inspections of a major segment of a difficult and complex project involving sophisticated mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems and equipment.

Salary Range
$60,541 - $78,703 Annually (Based on experience)
This position has a Recruiting Incentive up to 25% of annual salary for up to 2 years for eligible applicants.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performs inspection and surveillance of difficult and complex construction projects. Ensures contractor compliance with approved plans and specification for various construction contracts. Contracts may be for the construction or renovation of large, complex, or difficult projects such as renovation of multi-unit 55 family housing projects; repair of underground electrical distribution systems; and construction of administrative office buildings, hospitals, aircraft maintenance and support facilities, or multi-story computer facilities.

Performs duties as a technical consultant to the contracting office and engineering flight. Reviews plans and specifications for accuracy and completeness. Recommends technical changes to plans/specifications due to field conditions or safety requirements. Recommendations are given to the contracting officer or contract representative. Utilizes good judgment and initiative in making decisions.

Performs duties related to inspection of equipment and materials. Obtains samples from work site and forwards for laboratory testing and analysis when deemed necessary. Inspects all materials and equipment on construction sites to ensure compliance with specifications and drawings. Discusses rejections of material and deficiencies in construction methods with contractor representatives.

Gathers information to compile into written inspection reports and performs related duties. Prepares various documents, reports, and correspondence and maintains daily logs and safety reports addressing the progress of construction and the administration of the contract.

Knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures involved in the inspection of building materials, workmanship, utilities, and the installation of systems; and the practical methods and techniques of engineering principles relating to complex construction practices and procedures.

Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and structural aspects of major construction projects.

Knowledge of inspection and safety practices and procedures in the construction industry.

Knowledge of engineering and architectural plans and specifications to read and interpret construction requirements.

Knowledge of construction trades, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
