The Elevator Pitch
Evolv is developing a new digital product. You will work as part of a small team to create a subset of the customer-facing functionality in this product. This project will advance your skills in React application development, 3D object manipulation and algorithms. The work that you do will add sizzle to your project portfolio with screenshots and videos of functionality that you've developed and give you a taste of working in a small, fast-paced team.
At the conclusion of the internship, you will have the opportunity to host a live demo to showcase your work in front of the entire R&D group.
This internship is a 10 week program: June 9th – August 15th
Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes will work toward completing?
This role is designed with clear, outcome-driven objectives. At the start of each week, you will meet with the team lead to define specific feature development goals. Regular communication with team members will ensure progress and success. The internship is structured into two phases: the first 5 weeks and the second 5 weeks.
The First 5 Weeks:
- Kick-off and Orientation
- Introduction to the company, team, and tools.
- Overview of the project and your role.
- Setting up your development environment, accessing necessary resources, and understanding the workflow.
- Initial Feature Development
- Weekly meetings with the team lead to establish clear, achievable goals.
- Begin working on smaller, well-defined tasks to familiarize yourself with the codebase and processes.
- Engage in ad-hoc communication with your teammates to seek guidance, clarify doubts, and collaborate effectively.
- Participate in regular check-ins to review progress and address blockers.
The Second 5 Weeks:
- Advanced Feature Development and Refinement
- Transition to more complex, impactful feature development tasks.
- Apply feedback from earlier weeks to improve your output and efficiency.
- Collaborate more deeply with team members on interdependent tasks and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Final Presentation and Wrap-Up
- Prepare a presentation summarizing your contributions, the challenges you addressed, and the impact of your work.
- Share your final deliverables and insights gained during the internship with your team and stakeholders.
- Reflect on your growth and receive feedback from the team to help guide your next steps.
By the end of the internship, you will have developed a range of features, contributed meaningfully to the project, and gained valuable experience working in a collaborative environment.
The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
- Machine Vision Pipelines:
- Ability to set up, execute, and evaluate the performance of various machine vision workflows.
- 3D Animation:
- Familiarity with 3D animation concepts and tools.
- User Experience (UX) Development:
- Skills in designing and implementing intuitive user interfaces.
- Technical Knowledge
- Basic web development skills, including knowledge of HTML, DOM, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Familiarity with frameworks and tools such as React, Node.js, REST APIs, and WebSocket.
- Soft Skills
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a results-driven mindset.
- Ability to effectively adapt to challenges and focus on achieving desired outcomes.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team?
You will be joining a new product development team with 5 other people. Team culture is to move fast, break things and not worry about how things were done in the past. Leadership sets the specific deliverables and performance objectives while giving team members latitude to synthesize, implement and benchmark various solutions.
Where is the role located?
The location of this role is based in Waltham, MA with some flexibility in being remote some days. We require our interns to be onsite at a minimum 3 days of the work week. We do not provide relocation assistance at this time.
What is the pay range?
The hourly pay range for this internship position is $20-$27 an hour. Our pay ranges are determined by your current level of education.
