This team plays a crucial role within the organization and operates primarily remotely, with in-office options also available. About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, the Payroll Specialist is a critical position within the organization, serving a workforce of over 1,200 employees (salaried and hourly) in Canada. This position is responsible for processing and reviewing semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls, and for ensuring compliance with company and legislative requirements.
The Payroll Specialist provides subject matter expertise regarding all payroll processes and procedures. This position focuses on the administration of payroll processes and procedures, as well as assisting other departments. The position serves as a point of contact for employee questions and concerns with respect to payroll issues. The position requires that the employee possess strong full cycle payroll experience with Dayforce (Ceridian Dayforce) and Excel that can multitask and work independently. Integrity, strong attention to detail, and time management are crucial for this role
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process full cycle payroll and all related activities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Process irregular payments including annual bonus, various leave top-ups, STD payments, salary continuance, commissions, bonuses, termination payments, and timesheet entries for overtime and on-call.
- Audit employee timecards for accuracy and completeness in the time and attendance module.
- Responsible for ROEs, garnishments, and employment verification requests as required.
- Administer and reconcile employees’ benefits deductions and employer contributions in Dayforce.
- Prepare and upload RRSP contributions files. Record the journal entries.
- Communicate payroll schedules and deadlines amongst departments for necessary payroll input.
- Assist with preparation and reconciliation of year-end filings including T4s, T2200s, annual EHT filing and taxable benefits.
- Maintain and update payroll documentation for all workflow and system procedures necessary to support the Canadian payroll processes.
- Resolve employee questions and problems regarding payroll by researching policies and procedures, and by providing answers and resolutions to any problems or concerns that arise by responding within a timely manner.
- Provide feedback and suggestions on process improvements and procedures to enhance efficiency and continuous improvement.
Your Key Strengths:
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience in administering full cycle payroll.
- Minimum of 1 year recent Dayforce (Ceridian Dayforce) experience.
- Understanding of payroll practices and Canadian legislation.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to set priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Service-oriented with strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Ability to work well independently, as well as in a team.
- Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
Bonus Skills:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
- Completed Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification preferred.
- Open to learn US payroll
$68,000 - $73,000 a year
At PointClickCare, base salary is one of the many components that make up our total rewards package. The Canada base salary range for this position is $68,000 - $73,000 + bonus or commission + equity + benefits, overtime eligible. Our salary ranges are determined by job and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for the position across all Canada locations. Within the range, individual compensation is determined by job-related skills and knowledge, relevant experience including professional and lived experience, and/or work location.
