Job Summary:
The Infectious Disease Nurse Practitioner provides primary health care to individuals and families in all aspects and developmental stages of life, as well as providing primary care and HIV specialty care for patients living with HIV infection/AIDS. This includes the management of health problems and the promotion of optimal health.
Task Summary:
· Provide Primary care for patients. Make sound clinical judgments based on assessment of the physical, psychological, spiritual, social and environmental needs of patients helping with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations
· Prescribe treatment for illnesses within the scope of practice. Teach and counsel individuals and families to assist them to assume responsibility for the prevention of illness and restoration and maintenance of health.
· Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications
· Provide HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to persons at risk for HIV infection as well as provide primary care and HIV specialty care for patients living with HIV infection/AIDS
· Performs specialized assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services for persons presenting for STI screening and treatment utilizing appropriate protocols and guidelines. Complete HIV, Hep-C, and STD screenings including oral and rectal swabs and orders appropriate immunizations
· Performs one-on-one education on specific communicable diseases to persons at high-risk for infections. Provides information to patients regarding Hepatitis C and instructions regarding medication treatment. Meets with persons at risk for HIV infection to assess for the appropriateness of starting/continuing PrEP; prescribes PrEP for eligible persons; meets with those on PrEP to review labs and update prescriptions
· Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, Hepatitis C and related conditions. Discuss HIV/HCV/STI prevention and treatment information with all patients. Screens for substance abuse, tobacco use, intimate partner violence, immunization status, nutrition and exercise as necessary and initiates appropriate interventions
Requirements:
Minimum Education and Experience:
Required:
- Graduate of a certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program ,and A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in primary care with an emphasis on STI and HIV
- Ohio License (NP/PA), and DEA required
- Experience treating patients living with Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS, required
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with homeless, LGBT, multicultural and diverse populations
