POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC) is currently accepting applications for a shore-based Marine Tankerman. This position will be based out of the Catlettsburg, KY area and will report to the Marine Operations Area Supervisor. Tankerman are critical members of the Tankering Services Group, and we are looking for individuals who can contribute to our inclusive work environment.
Tankerman are responsible for safely and efficiently transferring various types of barges, troubleshooting barges, performing minor maintenance of barges and training other Tankerman to do so in accordance with all Company procedures/standards and United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations.
Tankerman will work in the field on barges, vessels, fleets, and terminals. Tankerman must be able to work in all weather conditions, both day and night, as the job assignment requires. This position is an on-call position, and Tankerman must respond within one hour of notification as to readiness for work. Tankerman must be able to work safely and independently in remote locations while maintaining motivation to effectively and efficiently complete the job. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are critical to this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct barge transfers based on MPC’s procedures and all applicable USCG regulations/guidelines.
Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on barges.
Proficient in all phases of barge transfers, including heater operation on hot oil barges.
Maintain records and document all transfer times to be turned into the office in a timely manner.
Maintain uniforms and equipment necessary for transfers in good, clean condition so as to be ready and available for each barge transfer.
May conduct transfer audits on third-party Tankerman and assist in training new Tankerman.
Interface with customers and do so in accordance with MPC’s policies/procedures.
Participate in safety and training activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must have own mode of dependable transportation and be able to travel to work locations via that transportation and via boat ride up to, but not limited to, a 200-mile radius of the base location of Catlettsburg, KY.
Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with Tankerman PIC and Barge DL endorsement required.
Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
