As a Network Systems Engineer, you will...
- Lead a variety of systems engineering activities for existing and future communications systems from concept development through engineering development and operations and maintenance.
- Analyze system-level behaviors and system of systems interactions and recommend improvements to support communications missions.
- Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community.
- Interact with technical specialists in other fields as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development.

- Possess a Bachelor's degree in information technology/science, computer science, electrical/computer engineering, or another related technical field.
- Have at least ten years of relevant experience engineering DoD network and software systems of systems.
- Are proficient in detailing network, software, and system designs through interface control documents, system description documents, capability description documents, and other system artifacts.
- Are familiar with foundational computer networking technology such as routers, switches, and security appliances.
- Are willing and able to travel periodically, up to 10%.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Possess a Master's degree or PhD in information technology/science, computer science, electrical/computer engineering, or another related technical field.
- Have at least twenty years of experience engineering DoD network systems of systems.
- Have knowledge of planning and acquisition processes for DoD communication systems.
- Are proficient with model-based system engineering tools to support systems engineering analysis.
- Are able to describe operation of key inter-networking and network security protocols and understand how interaction between the layers affect system performance.
- Have experience with software engineering processes and approaches.
- Have leadership or hands-on experience involving operational DoD networks and communication systems.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
