Overview:
Waterway is currently hiring for a Field Maintenance Technician supporting our locations in Chicago. The Field Maintenance Technician oversees and coordinates all necessary and ongoing maintenance of the car wash systems and technology while simultaneously being responsible for each location’s preventative maintenance schedule, safety and security compliance, facility appearance, and project management cost control at several locations. Field Maintenance Technicians also assist with specific aspects of renovations at existing locations as well as the build-out and development of brand-new locations.
The Field Maintenance Technician will be a hands-on contributor as well as collaborating with the rest of the market’s maintenance and store leadership teams. We are looking for a hands-on problem solver with leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills, plus a blend of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience. We need someone who can self-manage and prioritize tasks, deliver high quality workmanship, and help drive store success through collaboration with each location’s store management team.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Total target starting compensation for this position is $70,000 to $85,000 depending on experience.

This position works with a team to support multiple Chicago area locations - Highland Park, Northbrook, Skokie, and Vernon Hills. Reliable transportation is a must, a company vehicle is available when necessary.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, and repair and operate car wash equipment.
- Load, unload, and place car wash chemicals, supplies and equipment.
- Monitor costs related to utilities, chemical use, parts use, and building and grounds maintenance.
- Provide leadership and guidance to other non-direct report maintenance employees and store management.
- Assist store management in workplace safety, chemical application, parts and supply inventory, equipment preventative maintenance.
- Maintain building and grounds for facilities including landscaping maintenance.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in a technical field OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a maintenance-related field.
- Electrical experience including diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs required. Experience with 480v 3-phase systems including motor control is preferred. Candidates lacking this experience will be expected to successfully complete electrical training and certification within 12 months of hire.
- Have a full and valid drivers’ license (and acceptable driving record).
- Must be able to work a flexible 5-day a week schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Availability to work for all other operating hours.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
- Professional Appearance Standards (natural hair color, trimmed facial hair, no earlobe stretching or plugging, large tattoos must be covered, no visible tattoos above the shoulders).
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:
- Proven electrical experience with both low and high voltage systems.
- Knowledge and experience with plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to problem solve in an organized and systematic manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple time sensitive tasks and make effective decisions.
- Computer-proficient.
Physical Requirements:
- Environmental – will work outdoors year-round, and be exposed to wide temperature variations, sunshine, wet weather (rain, snow), humidity, wet surfaces, noise, gasoline and exhaust fumes, machinery and moving parts, high-pressure hydraulic lines, chemical solutions and dirt, power supplies up to 480-volt, three phase.
- Physical – pushing, pulling, and heavy lifting including overhead lifting. Manual dexterity. walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs., drive vehicles. Complete tasks at a fast pace, sustain consistent physical effort, sustain continuous and prolonged standing and movement. Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm and professional disposition in all circumstances.
- Vision and Hearing – Far and near visual acuity, peripheral vision and depth perception. Hear, understand, and distinguish speech from other sounds (e.g., alarms, horns, vehicles, and equipment).
- Language – must be able to fluently speak and understand English when communicating with other team members, managers, and customers for business related purposes.
- Attendance – maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance. Work as assigned schedule which may be irregular and include weekends, extended hours, overtime, and holidays.
