Job Summary: The Outreach Liaison â Temporary Pet Housing is responsible for supporting Animal Humane Societyâs efforts to provide short-term care for pets whose owners are experiencing hardships such as housing insecurity, chemical dependency treatment, hospitalization, or domestic violence and are unable to care for their pets.
Salary:Â $18-20 per hour based on experience

Schedule: Full-time; 40 hours per week
- Primarily Monday-Friday during business hours; weekends and evenings needed
Location/Remote Capabilities:Â This position is a hybrid position. Must be able to regularly travel between our Twin Cities locations (primarily St. Paul) and surrounding area. Must be able to successfully work remotely. Subject to change as business needs dictate.
Interview Process:Â Phone interview followed by 2 department interviews. Successful completion of a motor vehicle background check required.

What You'll Be Doing/Essential Functions
Outreach:
Coordinate across AHS departments and with external partners to activate the Temporary Pet Housing Programs.
Identify, maintain, and strengthen relationships with human services partners, communities, and community leaders to holistically address the short-term care needs of people and their pets.
Act as an organization liaison by seeking out and regularly attending community events, meetings, and presentations.
Connect community members with AHS resources.
Serve as a partner to and advocate for community members; actively listen to their needs and help identify gaps in outreach programs.
Develop and maintain working relationships with human services agencies to allow for bilateral referrals for services. Â
Communication and Culture:
Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, external partners, other employees, and volunteers.
Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
Prioritize client communication and respond in a timely and consistent manner. Â
Provide written updates and articles for the Community Outreach newsletter and internal communications channels.
Technology:
Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
Utilize AHS scheduling tools and database systems to track the flow of Temporary Pet Housing animals.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Schedule and Attendance:
Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.
Attend and participate in regular team meetings, all staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.
May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.
Work Environment:
Primarily office/desk based.
Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.
Qualifications
Experience:
1+ years of customer service and/or community organizing experience required.
Experience working with low-income or underserved communities preferred.
Ability to communicate in Spanish, Hmong and/or Somali preferred.Â
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
Strong administrative and process management skills.
Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting at a desk.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
Emotional Demands:
Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation required.
