Registered Nurse Surgical Observation Unit -$10K Sign-On-Bonus
Full-time/flex 36 hours weekly Flexibility to work all shifts - Day/Evening Shift hours. The predominant shift will be a 12-hour shift.
Weekends, Holidays, and On-Call shifts – per the department guidelines.

Christiana Hospital is currently recruiting for Registered Nurse II to support our Post Anesthesia Care Surgical Observation Unit. The candidate who is selected will be expected to train in Prep and Holding, PACU Phase II, and Surgical Observation. They will also assume responsibility and accountability for adult patients, admitted for observation and inpatient admission awaiting bed availability following a surgical procedure. Patients may require a level of care up to and including centralized cardiac monitoring and pulse oximetry monitoring. Deliver care using the nursing process in collaboration with other healthcare team members.

Detailed responsibilities:
Performs and documents accurate clinical assessments of patients on admission and throughout hospital stay according to established standards. Assesses the need for referrals for discharge planning.
Identifies actual and potential problems for which the patient is at risk.
Initiates follows and modifies a nursing plan of care based on assessment and diagnosis.
Assesses and documents patient response to interventions.
Individualizes guiding methods to best suit patient's and their family learning needs and abilities. Revises educational plans to meet needs as they change.
Encourages patient/family participation in the discharge process and informed decision-making.
Coordinates medications safely and optimally.
Responds optimally to patient crisis situations as outlined in unit-specific standards.
Initiates and participates in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions regarding patient care or practice. Elicits input from other team members. Hand-offs are accurate and include the patient or family’s input to ensure concerns or needs are being addressed.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge vital to delivering care to patients 16 years of age and older. This includes knowledge of growth and development as well as the ability to acquire and interpret information to identify patient needs and to provide equivalent care.
Establishes and maintains a sound knowledge base of nursing care vital for the specific patient population. Shares clinical knowledge through mentoring of others.
Apply effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians, and ancillary department staff.
Optimally delegate duties and tasks to other nursing staff after assessment of capability and scope of responsibilities.
Encourages each team member’s contributions.
Improves the professional growth of self by staying current in clinical practice, incorporating research into practice, and participating in teams, committees, and task forces. Supports unit Shared Decision-Making activities.
Represents the patient when the patient cannot represent their self.
Seeks available resources to help understand, formulate, and implement ethical decisions.
Requirements:
BSN Preferred, dedication to acquiring BSN within three years of the date of hire can be considered with relevant experience.
Qualified applicants MUST have at least two years of experience in med/surg.
Current RN licensure in the State of Delaware
BLS required.
ACLS, PALS, and TNCC are required within 6 months of hire.
The successful candidate may be eligible for a $10,000 sign-on- bonus to be paid over 12 months.
