The Role ⚖️
Gecko is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Sales Manager to take on a dual player-coach role, combining hands-on selling with leadership and coaching responsibilities. You’ll be both a top performer and a mentor, leading from the front by driving sales of our awesome engagement platform, whilst also building and guiding a high-performing sales team.
In your sales role, you’ll own the end-to-end sales process, from prospecting to closing deals, focusing on higher education institutions across the U.S. You’ll work closely with educational leaders to understand their challenges and identify their needs, present our solutions and close deals. Success in this role will be measured by achieving or exceeding sales targets and developing strong, lasting relationships with clients.
In your coaching role, you’ll provide leadership, mentorship, and day-to-day management to a small team of sales professionals. You’ll cultivate a high-performance culture, implement data-driven best practices, and drive continuous improvement of the sales processes. Your leadership will be key to reporting metrics, supporting your team in closing deals, and ensuring we consistently meet and exceed our goals.
Key Responsibilities
Sales 💸
- Achieve performance targets for meetings, opportunities, and closed deals.
- Develop a prospect pipeline using B2B sales tactics, with a focus on expanding new business in the education sector.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from lead generation to closing deals, including proposal creation and contract negotiation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with educational institutions and manage post-sale partnerships.
- Represent Gecko at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to expand business opportunities.
- Utilize CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) to maintain accurate follow-up and nurturing activities.
Sales Leadership 🤝
- Lead the development and execution of the sales strategy and business development plans.
- Establish and monitor sales metrics and KPIs to drive performance and improve team efficiency.
- Conduct weekly pipeline and progress meetings, providing coaching and support to sales reps.
- Develop and implement training, onboarding, and sales methodologies to enhance team performance.
- Collaborate with marketing to create effective inbound and outbound sales strategies.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of sales tools, processes, and technology to maximize efficiency.
What We Need From You 🌟
- 5+ years of experience in B2B sales, with at least 1-2 years of experience leading and managing a sales team.
- Outstanding track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, ideally in SaaS, education technology or similar sectors.
- Proven success managing the full sales cycle, including prospecting, closing deals, and managing post-sale relationships.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to inspire a team and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Passion for enhancing customer experiences and outcomes.
- Effective Communicator: Ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient with CRM systems (Salesforce), sales tools and able to quickly learn new software.
- Multitasker: Comfortable handling multiple accounts and shifting priorities.
- Calm Under Pressure: Able to meet deadlines and manage stress effectively.
- Continuous Learner: Eagerness to stay updated on industry trends and company products.
- Willingness to travel domestically in the US (and occasionally internationally).
- Familiarity with the higher education market and its procurement processes is a plus.
