Department Details
Serve as a technical resource advisor on safety, health, and environmental issues, to interpret laws, standards, policies, rules, etc. relative to the safety and health of staff. Responsibilities include:
Conduct safety meetings
Annual risk assessments
Management of hazardous waste
Conduct surveys related to Life Safety and identify areas for education
Job Summary
Perform safety related functions and activities for all Sanford facilities as they relate to the Sanford Safety Program. To ensure a safe environment for associates, customers and other users of Sanford facilities by utilizing established policies, guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. Must complete the Respiratory Protection training and serve as a resource for employees. Organize and lead the Environmental Safety Committees. Compliance with CMS and Joint Commission Standards and OSHA regulations.
Participates in the Emergency Preparedness Committee, assists with exercises, and compliance with CMS and Joint Commission Standards. Qualify as a First Receiver and maintain equipment needed.
Conduct safety surveillance audits and inspections according to the required standards and regulations and depending on the degree of hazard Must have a thorough knowledge of facility environments, construction work. Must have knowledge of all federal, state and local laws including OSHA pertaining to safety as well as Joint Commission standards pertaining to the Environment of Care and Life Safety Chapter.
Receives and disposes of hazardous wastes and maintains appropriate records in accordance with existing Local, State, Federal, and facility regulations; prepares comprehensive and legally sufficient written reports of all monitoring activities performed
Responsible for the proper identification, containing, labeling, storage and disposal of a variety of hazardous substances. Ensures substances are properly handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Performs or overseas the hazardous substance handling duties for customer generated hazardous waste is necessary. Must select and safely utilize correct sampling procedures to ensure personal safety. Manages a comprehensive inventory of hazardous materials and ensures Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are on file, current and available to all employees for their information. Provides appropriate guidance in cases of accidental spills or potential chemical injury.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education/degree, formal training or previous work experience in a safety-related field is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Strong computer knowledge and skills are required.
Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) certification preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.
