The Product Technology team is seeking an ambitious and goal-oriented collaborator to support long term new product development with a focus on Light Industrial and Exterior Architectural coatings. Candidate must be willing to develop technical knowledge and embrace novel approaches to assessing and developing technology. This position provides the opportunity to support project teams and collaborate with stakeholders from multiple departments such as Commercialization, Marketing, Raw Materials, and Polymer Technology. This position is accountable for supporting the formulation of new coatings products and development of new test methods through physical, technical, and other measurement techniques.

- Using a variety of technical instruments and methods for routine measurements and recording/evaluating data with limited supervision from project leads.
- Independently preparing/testing paint samples and incorporation of materials for evaluation.
- Effectively communicating technical results and conclusions with project leads, management, and stakeholders.
- Completing assigned work and issuing reports in alignment with project timelines.
- Maintaining and calibrating assigned technical equipment.
- Communicate and collaborate with other group members and other teams to set priorities and understand project scope and department impact.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• At least 2 years of laboratory experience
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organization, time management, and planning skills
• Microsoft suite skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Must have the legal right to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status
Preferred:
• Direct application of technical techniques in paints/coatings and/or polymers.
• Experience with Design for Six Sigma, Voice of the Customer, Design of Experiments
• An advanced knowledge of paint/coatings chemistry, formulation, and production, and/or coating field failure analysis experience.
• An advanced knowledge of testing/evaluation techniques and equipment usage/maintenance
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
• Understanding of fundamental chemistry practices and principles
• Operating a variety of laboratory equipment
• Ensuring compliance with department policies and procedures, applicable laws, rules, and regulations
• Prioritizing daily project tasks
• Solving problems and recommending solutions
• PC skills including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications

• Understands the basics of paint formulation and testing

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
