The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Boiler Mechanic, WG-5309-10, to work with the 673rd Civil Engineering Group, JB Elmendorf- Richardson, Alaska.
The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, repair, and modify large/complex heating boilers, and single and multiple fuel power boilers and support equipment including mechanical system controls and distribution lines.
This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Salary Rate is $36.91- 43.07 an hour based on experience.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, guides, codes, and work orders.
- Troubleshoots heating boilers, heating systems, and fuel power boilers with complex problems and extensive repairs requiring judgment to locate malfunctions.
- Installs, modifies, overhauls, repairs, and maintains a variety of complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on heating boilers and/or fuel power boiler systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Uses and maintains tools and equipment.
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
- Knowledge of mechanical electromechanical, and pneumatic principles to inspect, install, test, maintain, and repair power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
- Skill in dismantling, repairing, and reassembling pumps, to include balancing, aligning, and maintaining turbines, pumps, generators, and ash shredding equipment and preheaters.
- Skill in troubleshooting complex problems on large projects and applying prescribed test procedures.
- Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and a variety of test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, drawings, sketches, and specifications.

- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be requiredfor the position.
- The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching.
