POSITION TITLE
Senior Trader, Public Credit
POSITION LOCATION
Stamford, CT (hybrid work schedule)
YOUR ROLE
The Senior Trader for Public Credit is a highly visible position who is directly responsible for executing public asset transactions for the portfolio. You will support the Head of Corporate Credit and Public Markets in implementing the investment strategy and driving the evaluation and selection of investment opportunities that align with the portfolio’s strategic asset allocation. As a member of the Trading team, the role is expected to focus primarily on Investment Grade Corporate Credit. Additional sector responsibilities could include Structured Credit (ABS, CMBS, RMBS), Municipal Credit or High Yield Corporates. The successful candidate will partner closely with other Traders, Credit PMs, Credit Research, Portfolio and Risk Management to accomplish key portfolio objectives and implement tactical strategies for your assigned asset class(es). You will be responsible for collaborating across these teams to develop recommendations and execute on security selection decisions. The Trading team has high visibility across Genworth, and you will be expected to generate trade ideas in a relative value context, execute trades, monitor and opine on markets and follow macroeconomic trends. Preferred candidates should demonstrate a very strong understanding of how insurance company assets are invested to meet policyholder obligations and be able to support and influence initiatives across not only public credit but also Investments.
What you will be doing
- Trade both new issue and secondary bonds as well as portfolio trades
- Recommend relative value ideas and other tactical strategies for existing positions and new investments
- Present your views and discuss markets in our morning market discussions and various other meetings
- Keep a pulse on broad market movements, the economy and asset class trends to maintain educated opinions on relative value, credit trends and market outlook
- Foster strong relationships with dealer counterparties and other industry participants and work to maintain and improve Genworth’s standing with external partners
- Support additional asset class trading responsibilities including back-up for other traders
- Train and mentor Trading and Investments team members
- Adhere to risk, compliance and accounting policies and procedures
- Ability to do some potential travel to Richmond, VA and Raleigh, NC
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in a trading role, preferably in an asset management organization
- Self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and proven ability to work independently
- Very strong bond valuation framework
- Ability to build relationships with internal partners, including analysts, credit portfolio managers, portfolio managers, risk managers and others
- Have confidence to remain calm when challenged and ability to stand up to pressure, while exhibiting credibility to influence others while engaged in debate to provide practical solutions, a balance of assertiveness and discretion
- Must be able to stay ahead in a constantly changing environment to include market activity, business direction and priorities
- Exercise integrity and sound business judgment
- Strong problem-solving skills and leadership traits to assist with the daily operation of an organization
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and accurately complete them in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Excellent written / verbal communications skills and the ability to present effectively to leadership at the skip level
- Strong functional capability with Bloomberg and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

- MBA or equivalent degree
- CFA or other advanced certification
- Experience trading two or more asset classes
- Experience working with analytical tools such as Aladdin, Python and/or Power BI
- Portfolio trading experience

For the State of New York:
The base salary pay range for this role starts at a minimum rate of $112,900 up to the maximum of $214,600. In addition to your base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in an incentive plan. The incentive plan is based on performance and the target earning opportunity is 60% of your base compensation. The final determination on base pay for this position will be based on multiple factors at the time of this job posting including but not limited to geographic location, experience, and qualifications to ensure pay equity within the organization.
