The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Electrician, (Fire Alarm Technician), WG-2805-10, to work under the 341st Civil Engineering Squadron, located at Malmstrom AFB, MT.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the primary Electrician responsible for the installation and maintenance of Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21), Mass Notification Systems and associated electric/electronic devices and components.
This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the general public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Hourly Rate is $31.79 - 37.11 based on experience. (Not including overtime, holiday pay, annual or within-grade pay increases)
The installation Commander has approved 10% of salary as retention bonus after 6 months of satisfactory performance paid until 30 September 2025 and may continue annually if funding is available.

-Plans and lays out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders. Performs system programming, installations, modifications, pretests, operational and final testing, final tuning, alignment, and/or calibration of highly complex fire alarm system components, and/or subassemblies. Tests and diagnoses
problems in linear electronics control equipment, identifying any malfunctions and repairs required.
-Performs a full-range of duties pertinent to the deployment, maintenance, and modification of the Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems (Monaco D-21), Mass Notification Systems and their associated electric/electronic devices and components. Installs, maintains, trouble-shoots, adjusts, repairs and/or replaces all Fire Alarm Control Panels, Fire Detection Devices, Central Monitoring Control Systems and Mass Notification Systems to include a variety of electric and electronic equipment, components, and devices associated with the complete Fire Alarm Detection System such as pull stations, heat detectors, smoke detectors, smoke and heat detectors, flow and tamper switches, radio transmitters, receivers, transceivers and communication devices, power supplies, circuit boards and control panels, horn strobe units, end of line relay or data modules, electronic analog and digital computer control components, repeaters, etc.
-Participates in the establishment and implementation of expanded or extended use of the complete Fire Detection System and Central Monitoring and Control Systems; and new applications typically requiring custom type installations involving the coordination and services of more than one contractor. Work requires careful layout and coordination with the
contractors in establishing the expanded applications. Works closely with manufacturer field service engineers and technicians when installing or making extensive changes to the Fire Detection System and Central Monitoring Control Systems by integrating new equipment into the system.
-Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Performs cleanup duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and returning tools and other property to their assigned area. It will be required to operate a motor vehicle as part of the regular duties.
RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):
-Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories of the complete Fire Alarm Detection Systems and the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform standard and difficult assignments.
-Knowledge of evaluation, fact-finding, and investigative techniques in order to gather data, identify significant factors, and recommend a solution from a number of possible alternatives.
-Knowledge of the occupation to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly.
-Skill in applying the principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform moderately difficult assignments. Skill in using and maintaining hand tools such as, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, cable pullers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders.
-Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers and management.
-Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without more than normal supervision.
