The Trailer Mechanic performs required inspections and maintenance (corrective and preventative ) on trailers and equipment within planned time tolerances to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Trailer Mechanic:
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance on all trailers, converter dollies, light duty vehicles, and any other company-owned equipment in accordance with all federal, state, and local legal and regulatory agencies (includes all state required inspections and frequencies)
- Conduct all levels of preventive maintenance functions, such as regular servicing of trailers. Including oil changes and equipment inspections
- Electrical diagnostics, repair, and replacement
- Utilize the company’s maintenance system to create/maintain/complete work orders and vehicle maintenance records
- Lead and/or assist with the physical parts purchasing, inventory, receiving, and proper charge out of parts to work orders
- Performs general cleaning and repair duties
Requirements of the Trailer Mechanic:
- 3+ years of experience in fleet trailer maintenance and repair (up to 2 years can be credited for technical training/schooling)
- Knowledge and understanding of FMCSRs and DOT Compliance
- Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
- Technician must provide all hand tools (1/2” drive or under) necessary to perform maintenance. Diagnostic equipment, major shop tools, and secure toolbox will be provided by the company
- ASE certification preferred (not required)
- Current valid driver's license (CDL Class A preferred)
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required
