Summary:
Under the direction of the Nursing Director for an assigned shift plan delegate and direct comprehensive nursing care by assigning instructing and leading a team of professional and/or ancillary staff. Possesses the qualifications of the Clinical II nurse along with duties and responsibilities. Performs other duties as designated by the Nursing Director and serves as a clinical resource.
Responsibilities:
Assigns coordinates and monitors work of unit personnel to ensure patients receive necessary quantity and quality of care and that daily objectives are met
Does high level of patient assessment and ensures that plan of care and competent staff are assigned appropriately.
Provides Nursing Director and/or designee with report on all critically ill patients or unusual events.
Enhances productivity by assessing daily workload and capabilities of individuals and utilizes personnel efficiently.
Adjusts staff assignments for unscheduled staff absences or special needs.
Arranges for staff replacement and overtime authorization to meet unexpected or unusual demands of volume or case acuity as requested
Nursing Process
Demonstrates competency in the key functions of the Registered Nurse Clinical II position description.
Communications
Develops and maintains open and effective communication with nursing staff physicians and other care providers on the unit and builds and maintains constructive relationships throughout the hospital
Collaborates with Nursing Director for effective scheduling of staff on assigned shift.
Reports to Nursing Director on attendance and punctuality.
Provides input for performance evaluations.
Reports on-line occurrence reports requiring immediate attention to Nursing Director and/or Administrative Coordinator.
Consults with Nursing Directors and/or Administrative Coordinator on unusual or difficult technical personnel and administrative problems.
Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Qualifications:
Graduate from a school of nursing and licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Minimum of 6 months to one-year experience in an acute health care setting.
Current NRP required or within 6 months of hire.
Labor and delivery and mother-newborn postpartum experience preferred.
Current CPR Certification.
Current ACLS certification or must obtain within first six months of employment. (BHU and Rehab Nursing exempt from ACLS)
