General Laborer - $18- $20/hr

SUMMARY
The Construction Person performs duties related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of Underground Utilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives routine orders and engineering prints, indicating how facility is to be placed. Maintains red lined as built information depicting route, reel number, cable size and footage using sequential markings and access point or splice point locations.
- Places buried facility using plowing, trenching, boring and backhoe equipment installs protectors and demarcation devices at customer premises per job designation.
- Maintains right-of-way and restores all disturbed surfaces, such as concrete and pavement surfaces, trims trees and performs other landscaping duties as project requires.
- Grounds and marks new facility per utility specifications.
- Uses tools and work equipment, including hoisting, plowing, trenching and backhoe equipment properly, ensures that all tools and equipment are in good working order, maintained, and stored; reports defective tools and equipment for replacement or repair.
- Submits time reports, mileage and gas tickets, material charge outs and check-ins, and other clerical forms or other required procedures.
- Works with the awareness of the considerable hazards associated with the construction and maintenance of outside plant facilities, such as, but not limited to falls, the dangers of trenches, electric shock, falling objects, motor vehicles, etc.; uses all protective personal equipment; and complies with the appropriate safety regulations, including OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company policies. Will attend and participate in all regularly scheduled safety and training meetings, and specialty training to include Defensive Driving, First Aid and CPR, Safe Operation of Construction Equipment, etc.
- Uses all Personal Protective Equipment provided.
Will participate in the DOT mandated Drug and Alcohol Program, submitting to annual physicals, and random drug and/or alcohol testing, as well as "For Cause" drug and/or alcohol testing.
Provides the best possible service to all customers. Answers customer inquiries in an informative and polite manner or refers questions to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
May be required to assist the company mechanic at times and other positions as required by the Construction Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 2 years experience in the operation and maintenance of construction equipment associated with underground placement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10''s and 100''s.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Driver''s and CDL License Required.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
