Johnson Controls’ Wichita operation designs, builds and distributes around one million pieces of residential heating and cooling equipment every year. Johnson Controls Wichita builds and assembles some of the biggest HVAC brands in the industry, including York, Luxaire, Coleman, Champion and Guardian.
The primary manufacturing campus sits on 63 acres with a total of 1.3 million square feet. It has also translated into large employment growth in Wichita, where its workforce is around 1,600 employees which is up nearly 22 percent year over year. The Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita.
What you will do:
You will partner with business leaders at our our manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kansas to develop and execute HR strategies, with a focus on talent development, workforce planning, and employee relations. This position will also own other HR priorities, working them in parallel to supporting and working with their assigned client group(s).
You will perform a variety of employment related functions and use data to drive recommendations for the purpose of enhancing employee engagement, retention, productivity, while ensuring compliance with company policies.
How you will do it:
Establish self as ‘go to’ HR person for managers and employees within assigned client group. Develop strong working relationships with local management and employees in order to influence and coach them on effective employment practices.
Partner with leaders to promote high-performance through coaching and constructive feedback.
Work with the HR team on employment matters including talent development, employee relations investigations, labor relations and implementation of company-wide HR activities such as: integrity training and talent assessments.
Conduct investigations and recommend actions to effectively resolve policy violations, while documenting actions taken. Escalate sensitive or critical issues in a timely manner.
Work with client group to interview and select right talent to for open positions (hourly and salaried).
Stay current on state/federal employment laws and company policies. Share ‘need to know’ information with managers to help improve their supervisory effectiveness and to avoid problems.
Partner with HR Coordinator(s) to process employment transactions (hires, transfers, equity adjustments, organizational re-alignments and promotions).
Implement HR programs, processes, and procedures emanating from COEs or other HR leadership areas.
Utilize analytical skills, including data deep dives, to gather insights. Work with HR team and clients to address as needed.
Ability to support 24/7 environment that has multiple shifts. Must be willing to occasionally work outside of normal business hours to support operational needs, (nights and/or weekends).
What we look for:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
Minimum 3+ years HR Generalist experience with strong knowledge of Employee/Labor Relations
Solid human resources generalist skills, especially in the areas of talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, labor law and labor relations
Solutions focused individual, who has the ability to coach and influence leaders and individual contributors
Ability to influence and coach employees and business leaders.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills are essential
Minimal travel may be required
Able to effectively use Microsoft suite of software to conduct business duties.
