PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Human Resources Specialist supports the implementation of impactful people programs and initiatives which create a culture where employees feel valued, motivated and committed to the success of Deer Valley. This position's primary focus is the coordination of staff events, recognition/rewards and communications during winter seasons. This position will also serve as backup to the Staff Engagement Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff Relations:
- Always maintain an absolute discrete level of confidentiality. Evaluate information that is brought to your attention on a "needs to know" basis.
- Assists the Staff Engagement Manager with staff relations issues including inquiries, documentation, staff mediation and conflict resolution in both English and Spanish (if skill set available).
- Responsible for responding to both routine and non-routine staff relations inquiries.
- Intakes and escalates staff complaints that require investigation to the appropriate HR Manager/Director/VP.
- Maintains detailed records of all staff issues with follow up plan to be shared with the Staff Engagement Manager. Develop documentation in response to an employment-related issue, charge or claim.
- Conducts the exit interview process to identify reasons for staff voluntary terminations, collects data on termination reasons.
- In-depth knowledge of Deer Valley Resort policies and Staff Handbook information.
- Supports staff compliance through knowledge of Deer Valley policies and state and federal employment laws and regulations.
- Works with the entire human resources team to support all aspects of the human resources function as needed.
Staff Engagement:
- Monitors and reviews staff suggestions and comments. Forwards suggestions to the appropriate resort representatives and follows up with staff.
- Supports a strong culture and staff engagement through the coordination of staff events, and the recognition and rewards program.
- Collaborates with HR Front Desk to distribute staff rewards.
Events:
- Coordinates all aspects of staff functions upon the direction of the Staff Engagement Manager.
- Assists the Staff Engagement Manager with budget related items including but not limited to researching and estimating costs associated with staff events and rewards.
Administrative:
- Assists the Staff Engagement Manager with inventory management of promotional items dedicated for staff rewards. Research future sources of industry and community discounts.
- Assists with administrative/clerical HR functions as assigned by the Staff Engagement Manager including but not limited to editing projects, updating correspondences, managing work records and other.
- Flexible to perform various projects as assigned and work a variety of hours as the business demands, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a dependable, flexible, "team-oriented" person. Must possess strong communication and organizational skills as well as the following:
- 1-3 years of Human Resources related experience
- Ability to manage sensitive situations discreetly
- Be extremely organized with an acute attention to detail
- Possess ability to positively interact with a variety of personalities including guests, vendors and all Deer Valley staff
- A team player, who values individuals' opinions, treats everyone with courtesy and respect
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and app-based systems
- Committed to providing outstanding guest service
- Able to work fluidly with a variety of personalities in multiple departments, effectively collaborate with staff at all levels
- Exceptional listener, able to handle ambiguity, changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: - High school diploma or GED equivalent, required
- College graduate, preferred
