The Industrial Painter is responsible for the local delivery and execution of the preparation and core painting to vendors and managers in accordance with Johnson Controls principles, corporate policies and procedures, and plant operations. You will perform a variety of employment related functions in a manufacturing environment for the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement, safety and health, productivity and ensuring employee compliance with Company policies in a manufacturing facility.
How you will do it:
The Industrial Painter will have the ability to apply previous experience handling and applying a minimum of 3 of the following chemicals on metal:
- Oil-based paint
- Water-based paint
- Enamel
- Zinc
- Carboline
- Amerlock
- Solvents
- Epoxy
- Thinners
The Industrial Painter must also know how to:
- Operate manual and semi-automatic paint equipment.
- Successfully apply unit preparation, masking, and painting discipline into all standard and complex models. E.g., YX, CYK, YD, NEMA, seismic.
- Operate forklift and overhead cranes to transfer parts, material, and units throughout department.
- Apply proper flushing and cleaning discipline for each paint equipment part with the frequency required.
- Properly label paint waste barrels, clean up spills, and disposal regulations.
- Maintain safe work practices.
- Conduct technical inspections on paint equipment and paint booths.
- Must follow written and oral instructions.
- Identify production line and maintain daily log on all usage of material.
- Read and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
- Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair/rework techniques.
- Participate in training program as trainee/trainer as required.
- Practice and promote 5S throughout facility daily.
- Participate in kaizen events.
- Other assigned work as needed.
Qualifications We Look For:
- Two (2) or more years of industrial or automotive painting experience; spray, brush, finish, paint parts, etc of specially engineered product systems, equipment, and units.
- Ability to perform moderate physical effort working continuously with light weight or frequently with average weight materials when manipulating spray gun, hand paint materials, cleaning surfaces.
- Ability to follow safety precautions necessary to prevent injury to others
- Ability to work in somewhat disagreeable conditions with varying degrees of exposure to paint, thinner, fumes, dirt, rust to the extent of being objectionable.
- Ability to apply metal preparation, masking, and painting discipline.
- Possess knowledge of all hazardous waste, storage documentation and environmental safety practices.
- The use of various hand tools, machinery and equipment will be required to prepare and rework.
- This position will work with supervisors and lead person to ensure continuous improvements in paint booths, goal attainments, and pre-set painting processes.
- The ability to scan in and out of work orders is a must.
- Possess the physical abilities listed: Lifting 50 lbs. (occasional), Standing (constant), Walking (frequently), Bending (frequently), Climbing (occasional), Crawling (occasional), Reaching (frequently), Grasping (frequently), Sitting (occasional).
- The ability to perform up to expectations while being exposed to noise, dirt, dust, cold/heat (indoor), cold/heat (outdoor)
- Forklift experience
- Knowledgeable in the preparation of material, mixtures, and equipment.
- Knowledgeable on paint gun settings such as air pressure and paint flow.
- Possess the knowledge and ability to rework scratches, holidays, and paint runs.
- Knowledgeable in procedures of paint equipment troubleshooting.
- Vision corrected to 20/20 and be able to distinguish different colors correctly.
- Additionally, the painter A must read and understand production AutoCAD production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 months of metal industrial painting experience.

Preferred:
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of (1) year experience as a painter.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in diverse working environments.

- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
