Job SummaryPosition serves as a member of the faculty of the ACPE chaplain residency in the accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency and internship program at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital; teaches and manages educational programs that encourage the healing environment wherever the chaplain interns and chaplain residents serve. The incumbent has responsibility for contributing to the wellbeing of patients, families, and healthcare professionals by providing care that engages their spiritual, emotional, and relational resources through the chaplain residents and interns and as a chaplain.
Job DescriptionMinimum QualificationsEducation: Master of Divinity degree or equivalent academic credit as determined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)
Licenses/Certifications: ACPE Certified Educator or ACPE Certified Associate Educator
Experience/Knowledge/Skills:- Three (3) years of experience in Chaplaincy Services
- Completion of minimum one-year residency in an Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) program; prefer two-year residency
- Endorsement by a recognized faith group for chaplaincy
- Ability to provide perceptive, sensitive, and effective care in a setting with diverse abilities, beliefs, cultures, ethnicities, and identities
- Demonstrates commitment to the Memorial Hermann mission, vision, values, and services standards in performing all job duties; performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction
Principal Accountabilities- Collaborates in the design, implementation, and supervision of educational programs in the accredited CPE residency and internship programs at Memorial Hermann -TMC/Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital through which chaplaincy care is accomplished
- Participates in recruiting, orientation, supervision, and evaluation of residents and interns in programs of ACPE
- Manages, develops, and participates in services that contribute to the wellbeing of patients, families, and healthcare professionals by providing care that engages their spiritual, emotional, and relational resources through the CPE Residency.
- Functions as an effective team manager, attends directors and managers meetings as requested at MHSW or MHTMC/Children's, and utilizes people and resources to create a healing environment that achieves outcomes which accomplish the hospitals' mission of spiritual care
- Oversees, in coordination with the director, participation on hospital committees, teams, and task forces as assigned
- Designs, conducts, and participates in educational activities for healthcare professionals, ministry volunteers, area faith leaders, and the public in the areas of spiritual care and clinical ethics and maintains relationships with faith communities to facilitate ministry to hospital patients
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
