Job Description
EXPERIENCE TIERS
TIER III: = $42 per hour - Commit to work 4 - 12 hour shifts per 6 week schedule
TIER IV: =$45 per hour - Commit to work 5 - 12 hour shifts per 6 week schedule
- Competent to work in one of the following areas:
- Med Surg/Tele/Ambulatory Care
- OR/PACU/Cath Lab
- Emergency Dept.
- Neurology & Critical Care
- Work at least (1) weekend or night shift per 6-week schedule.
- Work (or take call) two holidays per year, (1 major and 1 minor)
Must designate shift availability 14 days prior to shift assignment.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements/Eligibility
- Must have current South Carolina license as a Registered Nurse.
- Must meet (5+) years Nursing experience in an “acute care facility” Must have current Basic Life Support certification (BLS), Advance Life Support (ACLS), and any other certifications required by department specialty requirements.
- Must provide evidence of competency in specialty areas, if applicable.
Scheduling Details and Requirements
- Per Diem employees will be called upon to fill vacant shifts in the hospital schedule after full-time and part-time employees have been scheduled. Per Diem hours are not guaranteed to be scheduled / worked.
- For scheduling and assignment of pay rate purposes, the hours considered to be “weekend hours” for per diem employees are hours beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday through 6:59 AM on Monday. “Weekday hours” for per diem and weekend employees are hours from 7:00 AM Monday through 6:59 PM on Friday.
Call-outs and Shift Cancellations
- Per Diem employees must notify their supervisor or designee of any absence at least 4 hours prior to the start of the shift.
- Per Diem employees will be given two hours’ notice of shift cancellation. Notice of cancellation will be considered to have been given if a telephone call is made by the supervisor or his/her designee. In the event that the phone is not answered or a message is left on an answering machine, the notice of cancellation is still valid. Calls will be made to the contact phone number designated by the employee.
- Per Diem employees are subject to being called off first if not needed.
- If a Per Diem employee is unable to work a required holiday, he/she will be required to work an additional holiday at the discretion of his/her supervisor and will be subject to the performance management process.
- Per Diem employees may be asked to take call for the unit based on the needs of the unit.
Compensation
- Per Diem employees will be compensated according to the program/s selected. Shifts differentials are not applied.
- Per Diem employees will not be paid additional premiums for holiday hours worked.
Benefits
- Per Diem employees are ineligible to participate in health, disability, and flexible spending accounts; and do not accrue paid-time-off, and holiday benefits.

Resignation/Termination
- Per Diem Plan employees must give a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice of termination.
- Per Diem Plan employees may request to change tiers during an Annual Enrollment Period, which will take place at the end of the year. Approval will be at the manager’s discretion and will be based on the employee’s performance and the needs of the facility/department.
- Per Diem Plan employees are eligible to apply for full time status once they have completed a minimum of 6 months of service in good standing in per diem status. Alternatively, full time employees may not apply for per diem status until they have completed 6 months of service in good standing in full time status.
Failure to work (or be available to work) at least three (3) shifts in a 90 day period will be construed as my voluntary resignation from the Per Diem program.
