The Nursing Assistant assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care. The nursing assistant, under supervision, performs various routine duties to assist nurses in the treatment and care of patients and general operations of the nursing unit. He/she will carry out their responsibilities according to established standards and practices and philosophy of Carle Richland Memorial Hospital (CRMH).
- Answer lights and telephone with good guest relations manner.
- Pass trays and ice.
- Transport patients to other units/departments.
- Ability to assist or do complete hygiene care on patients of all ages
- Maintain clean linens on patients bed and person. Keep patient rooms clean and neat by disposing of linens and trash in the appropriate manner.
- Assist in preparing body after death.
- Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge process-ensuring rooms are set up for admits and post op surgical patients.
- Obtains intake and output and documents in the patient record.
- Assist the patient in turning or repositioning in bed.
- Ability to take vital signs, BP, Pulse, Temperature and respirations on all ages
- Assist patients to the bathroom or to use the bedpan/commode with call light within reach.
- Performs in a competent manner Foley catheter care may remove Foley catheter
- Document all care given in a factual manner into the patient record.
- Performs bedside reporting/off going report to oncoming staff at shift change.
- In collaboration with other staff members, utilizes rounding process.
