Essential Functions
Strategy and Planning
- Review and analyze existing solution effectiveness and efficiency and develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
- Benchmark, analyze and make recommendation for improving current and future implementation methods and practices.
- Facilitate and oversee development of internal team goals.
- Support the growth and development of team members and leaders. Ensure a detailed succession plan is in place for both individuals and skills to ensure sufficient staff depth is in place to meet the needs of the business.
- Push creative thinking beyond the boundaries of existing industry practices and client mindsets.
- Lead and liaison with Enterprise Data and Insights (ED&I) and Digital Technology teams to ensure alignment across portfolios.
- Partner with business leadership regarding risks, objectives, and process improvements. Actively engage business management to ensure business needs and expectations are met.
- Work with management to generate quarterly work plans including estimation of time and resource allocation for proposals to support business initiatives.
- Develop wants/needs for the annual budgeting process in projects, operations, and support.
- Determine staffing and skills requirements.
Acquisition and Deployment
- Assist the business and applications teams in alignment of key projects.
- Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
- Provide guidance concerning business implications of development projects.
- Guide and oversee project and design reviews to evaluate and ensure that the design being applied meets policies, principles, and standards.
- Communicate effectively with internal partners and customers to deliver requirements.
- Guide and oversee the IT organization standards for process management.
- Guide and oversee departmental processes and procedures in support of team goals.
Operational Management
- Apply Solution Architecture frameworks and practices.
- Ensure consistent solution design practices and principles across all implementations.
- Maintain relationships with key consumers of data engineering services and address concerns as they arise.
- Provide guidance on standards and implementation requirements for supported solutions.
- Develop and maintain understanding of key processes, schedules, cycles, profiles, etc. for the technical systems in use by business.
- Develop solutions to leverage SaaS platform functionality and suggest process improvements.
- Provide regular, clear, and consistent communication (written and oral) on the status of projects, issues, and deliverables to representatives from the partner/vendor.
- Manage and oversee staffing, performance and resource management.
- Define and implement strategic direction of the team.
- Set employee objectives, monitor and evaluate performance and provide feedback and mentoring.
- Create and maintain development plans for each team member, including training, skills assessment, goals, and career planning. Manage personal growth objectives for the team
- Manage team organizational structure with team vision, goals, and defined roles and responsibilities.
- Develop management dashboards to ensure tasks are completed timely and effectively.
- Manage, develop and mentor team members toward the building of a strong team.
- Apply resourceful and decisive decision making to achieve goals.
Incidental Functions
- Assist with various projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
- Prepare and lead presentations as requested.
- Research or prototype new tools and/or technologies.
- Lead internal teams/task forces on initiatives as assigned.

Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field of study (e.g., Information Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Systems Management, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
- 12+ years of IT experience.
- 8+ years of experience managing a team of direct reports.
- 5+ years of experience with SQL, (specifically, but not limited to, PostgreSQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, SNOWSQL).
- 5+ years of experience with designing, building and implementing applications, system integrations, and web services in an international/global environment.
- 3+ years of experience with server-side scripting and programming in a Linux environment (primarily bash shell)
- 3+ years of experience using data warehouse ETL tools (specifically IICS, Fivetran/HVR, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI))
- Strong knowledge of Data Engineering to ensure effective and optimal solution design, deployment and support of processes. Strong understanding of common database (Oracle, Snowflake) technologies including performance, tuning, and optimization.
- Proven ability to champion adoption of best-in-class Data engineering practices (Data virtualization, Devops, test automation etc)
- Proven ability to drive adoption of agile practices throughout data engineering development teams.
- Strong data manipulation skills and experience with data warehouse ETL tools and processes.
- Deep expertise of design, planning, management, maintenance, and support of Cloud Technologies such as Azure and Snowflake is required. AWS, GCP preferred but not required.
- Good understanding of Business Intelligence Tools (MicroStrategy, Tableau, BOBJ).
- Advanced knowledge on the support of various component and configuration items.
- Experience in leading at least three (3) cross functional projects as a Team Lead or Project Manager.
Preferred Knowledge
- Exposure/ experience with developing and integrating with Cloud based applications.
- Strong experience in project management and system architecture methodologies preferred.
- Knowledge of vendor software integration and interaction patterns preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Exposure/ Experience with DevOps practices
- Understand and execute the IT processes of Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and Configuration Management.
